Актер кино и ТВ комедийного амплуа. На протяжении 20 лет (1951-71) его "Ред Скелтон шоу" [Red Skelton Show, The], которое он неизменно заканчивал словами "Ай да я!" ["I Do'd It"], было одним из самых популярных на ТВ. 18 апреля 1942, когда ВВС США совершили первый успешный воздушный налет на Токио под командованием подполковника Дж. Дулитла [Doolittle, James], Скелтон объявил в своем шоу: "Ай да Дулитл!" ["Doolittle Do'd it"]. В кино снимался в мюзиклах и комедиях: "Ай да я!" ["I Do'd It"] (1943), "Дюбэрри оказался леди" ["DuBarry Was a Lady"] (1943), "Красотка-купальщица" ["Bathing Beauty"] (1944), "Янки с Юга" ["A Southern Yankee"] (1948), "Сейчас птичка вылетит" ["Watch the Birdie"] (1950), "Прекрасная на вид" ["Lovely to Look at"] (1952) и др.
